AI-Driven Journalism as a Digital Governance Mechanism for Quality Education and Access to Information: Advancing Sustainable Development through SDG 4 and SDG 16
Main Article Content
Abstract
Artificial Intelligence (AI) has rapidly transformed digital journalism, enabling automated news generation, personalization, and large-scale data analysis. This study examines how AI-driven journalism functions as a digital governance mechanism that promotes quality education (SDG 4) and strengthens access to information, transparency, and institutional accountability (SDG 16). Using a qualitative, policy-based analytical framework, the paper explores the intersection of AI journalism, India’s National Education Policy (NEP 2020), and e-governance strategies under the Digital India initiative. Findings reveal that AI journalism, when integrated within e-governance ecosystems, can democratize access to educational and civic information by enabling fact-checking, multilingual news dissemination, and real-time public data visualization. However, unresolved challenges algorithmic bias, ethical opacity, and the digital divide limit its impact. The study recommends establishing transparent governance frameworks, national AI ethics guidelines, and inclusive digital infrastructure to ensure that AI journalism serves as a tool for sustainable education, civic empowerment, and digital democracy aligned with SDG 4 and SDG 16.
