PROMOTING VIETNAM – INDIA CULTURAL DIPLOMACY THROUGH BUDDHISM AND YOGA

Abstract
In the present era, when nation states are endeavoring to expand their influence in myriad ways, cultural diplomacy is epitomized in promoting bilateral and multilateral relations. To boost Vietnam – India relations, cultural diplomacy is perceived as the foundation for multi-dimensional connections. Using methods of analysis and synthesis, the article analyzes the cultural diplomacy policies of Vietnam and India; and its implementation through convergences in the traditions esposed by Buddhism and Yoga. The paper argues that Buddhism and Yoga are intertwined aspects of cultural diplomacy that both nations can utilize effectively to strengthen people-to-people connections, generating a multiplier impact for enhanced goodwill. If these aspects can be further optimally promoted, the overall Vietnam – India relations in all areas will foster a qualitative change.
